Assassination attempt improves Mohammed Bin Nayef’s fortunes
There has been an unusual development in the much-debated topic of the Saudi succession, with the late August assassination attempt on Assistant Interior Minister Prince Mohammed Bin Nayef Bin Abdelaziz Al-Saud (MBN) by Yemeni-born suicide bomber Abdullah Hassan Tali Al-Asiri catapulting the interior minister’s son to the front of a group of third-generation contenders for the throne. حينما كنت طالباً في باريس، في منتصف التسعينات، لم أكن أرى ضيراً في الإجابة، حين كنت أُسأل من أي بلد جئت، بأني من أبوظبي أو دبي أو الشارقة، أو أي امارة يعرفها السائل عن وطننا الغالي، لأنني ما كنت لأرى فرقاً بين الإمارات. لكن للأسف اكتشفت أن الكثير من الإماراتيين لا يفكرون بهذه الطريقة.
