تُعد العادات والتقاليد من ضمن ضحايا موجات العولمة التي اجتاحت العالم في العقود القليلة الماضية. ولكن عدداً من المناطق في العالم تمكن من الحفاظ على موروثه الحضاري، ومن ضمنه الزي التقليدي لتلك البلدان، مثل جنوب آسيا حيث لايزالون يرتدون الساري والسروال والقميص حتى في المدن الكبيرة، أو في غرب إفريقيا حيث نرى القفطان بألوانه الزاهية، وطبعاً دول الخليج التي حافظ أبناؤها على زيهم الرسمي الكندورة، أو الدشداشة، بالإضافة إلى العباية النسائية.

At first glance it seems as though the six Gulf Cooperation Council monarchies have no civil society movements to speak of, but scratching the surface unveils a complex layer of organisations that exist side by side with the governments and in some cases have been merged into governmental structures.
